One of Europe’s top 20 beaches, Adraga, Sintra, Portugal.
One of Europe’s top 20 beaches (voted by The Sunday Times).
• A sand crescent tucked between tall cliffs.
• Wild and wonderful, with great surfing breakers pounding the shore.
• Excellent water quality.
• Beachfront restaurant and café.
• Reached by a winding road, 5 minutes by car, or a 20 minute walk from the village of Almoçageme.
• Interesting rock formations including caves and tunnels.
• Nearby Fojo da Adraga - a deep blow hole which echoes the hollow sound of the water and the Pedra Alvidral, a craggy rock reaching the sea.
• Busy in the months of July and August, with full beach facilities including lifeguard.
• Nearby, the villages of Almoçageme and Penedo, places to stay and eat.
• Almoçageme, a typical Portuguese village, with a beautiful main square, church and occasional market.
• Penedo, a typical hillside village with magnificent views from the church square – Capela de Santo António do Penedo, a rustic 16th century church with 17th century glazed tiles.
