Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Portugal

Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Portugal.
The most westerly point of mainland Europe. Latitude - 38’ 47’ north. Longitude - 9’ 30’ west. Altitude - 140 m above sea level. Lighthouse, café and tourist office where visitors may buy a certificate.
Magnificent landscapes and views.
Interesting rare plants and an abundance of wildlife.
Nearby beach of Praia da Ursa, frequented by naturists in the summer. Not recommended for the elderly or small children, but after the adventure of the difficult descent you will find paradise. No facilities.
The picturesque village of Azóia with places to stay and eat.
Peninha, a castellated fort-like building, on top of the mountain as you look up from Cabo da Roca. This historical     site stands on the ruins of a medieval chapel - Ermida de São Saturnino and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Pena.
Great coastal and country walks. http://www.walksinportugal.com
